I was pleased to see that the heron has hatched her eggs when I went for a walk in the woods a couple of days ago. Unfortunately it was a grey rainy day and not very good visibility when I was trying to get a shot of the chicks so I am not sure if there are 2 or 3 . I went back the next day and got a clear shot of mother on nest but she didn't move so I couldn't see chicks !
Usually the male hangs around too and helps to feed and look after the youngsters but I have only seen one adult so she seems to be a single parent! It will be hard for her to rear them alone especially while they are small and vulnerable and she has to leave them alone to go and hunt for fish. Fingers crossed they will be ok.
